Alternative Energy: Solar Power and Climate Change
It would seem that there is no middle ground available in this debate on climate
change and finding an alternative energy source. Solar power is the most logical new power source for Australia yet it
is not receiving enough funding for more Research and Development (R&D) funding from our Government. Is this
the result of 'big business' lobbying or is it other vested interests interfering and positioning themselves for
more gain out of the situation?
It is intriguing if you are what has been conveniently labelled as a "conspiracy
theorist" or a "sceptic" and therefore not worth listening to, if someone has the gall to question our scientists
and leaders on this matter. The average person in the street knows that our climate is going through a massive
change because our summers are getting hotter and it seems winters are getting colder around the world. Australia
is still experiencing massive water shortages and some areas are still in drought after nearly 12 years. Change is
all around us every day so how could we not notice it?
Because we recognize that change is happening to our environment doesn't mean we
condone some of the ways that our elected officials are handling the situation. It seems a strange position to
insist on to come up with a potential solution based on limiting ourselves before we hear what other Nations are
going to do about their share of the problem. Why is Australia so determined to lock ourselves up before we even
hear the charges? From the point of law, this seems a very strange position to adopt just before a world wide
conference on the problem.
These anomalies are just some of the questions that remain unasked and unanswered.
Our media is letting Australia down because they are not investigating these questions sufficiently well due to
either so called lack-of-funding or because of a vested interest in the outcome. They are also partly responsible
for rubbishing people who are asking some of the questions that need answers. The electronic media is so busy
chasing ratings for advertising dollars that they are a major contributor to the 'dumbing down' of our citizenry so
they never ask the hard questions.
Whatever the outcome will be from Copenhagen in December 2009 is going to eventually
and dramatically affect all our lives. No where probably more so than in the developed western world. To date, it
has been the western world who is a major contributor to both the financial economic woe's, climate change and lack
of assertion to find an alternative energy source.
Solar Power is to date, the most advanced alternative energy
source in Australia. It is a source of energy that is available Australia wide, including the rural areas
who often in the past have been at the rear end of technological progress.
The biggest change of all has to come from our elected leaders. Lobbyists have to be
controlled and some of our politicians need to grow a few calluses and tell the vested interests to back off and
stop thinking only of shareholder profits and bonuses. Until we put greed aside long enough to all work for the
common good, we are all likely to end up in the dark.
